ICE DOGS BITE BACK, EVEN SERIES AT 1-1
Topeka's Josh Kamrass (10) and the rest of the RoadRunners were defeated by the Ice Dogs in Game 2 on Friday night.
(TOPEKA, KS) - The Fairbanks Ice Dogs turned the tables on the RoadRunners in Game 2, notching a 3-1 win and evening the best of 5 series at a game apiece.
After a scoreless first period, a determined Ice Dogs club got a couple of breaks in the second, and took advantage to pull ahead in the contest. Matt Carlson connected on a power play shot from the point that glanced off a RoadRunner forward and into the net for a 1-0 lead at 7:20 of the 2nd. Just over a minute later, Topeka's Bryon Paulazzo had his stick snap in the offensive zone, and the Ice Dogs chipped it out of the zone to Ryan Santana, fresh on the ice from a line change and behind the defense, and he raced in alone on Bryce Merriam and buried a nifty backhander upstairs for a quick 2-0 lead. The bounces continued to go Fairbanks way as an Austin Block shot was turned aside by Merriam easily enough but the rebound caromed off the skate of Aaron Stonacek and in to make it 3-0. In the third period, Topeka got on the board on a pretty passing play by Matt Hartmann and Ross Trousdale that was finished off by Steve Shafer just 2:42 into the frame but it was all the 'Runners could muster as Fairbanks slammed the door en route to a 3-1 win, knotting the series at a game apiece with Games 3 and 4 set for Thursday and Friday at 7:05 pm in Topeka. The games will be "home games" for Fairbanks, and they will have last change and other considerations as well.
