ST LOUIS SLOWS TOPEKA DOWN IN 5-2 WIN
(CHESTERFIELD, MO) - The St Louis Bandits earned a day of rest by defeating the RoadRunners 5-2 on Friday night.
It was St. Louis who scored first and never looked back. With first period goals by Ben Warda and Kyle O'Kane, it was a 2-0 Bandit lead after one. The second period saw St. Louis double their efforts and double their lead, pulling ahead 4-0 on another Ben Warda goal and then another power play goal, this one from blueliner Wes Love. Topeka was outshot in the second period 14-5, and things looked bleak for the 'Runners. In the third period, Topeka showed signs of life as Jake Hutt buried an unassisted backhander and then Tom Kleidon tipped in a gorgeous pass from Randy Swank on a rush and midway through the third it looked like the Kardiac Kids from Kansas might have yet another fantastic finish in their bag of tricks. But on this Friday night on the Olympic ice in Chesterfield, the Bandits held their ground, dumping in a late empty-netter to secure the 5-2 win and a coveted bye in the Semi-Final round. Topeka must face Mahoning Valley again on Saturday at 3:00 pm, with the winner advancing to face the Bandits for the Robertson Cup.
