Topeka Moves to 2-0-0 with OT Win
Blaine, MN - The Topeka RoadRunners dominated the Bismarck Bobcats on Thursday morning, outshooting them 38-8, but needed overtime to seal the win and improve to 2-0-0 on the season.
After a scoreless, and surprisingly brisk first period (surprising because of the 10:00 am start time, with both teams having played late the night before), it was Bismarck who struck first, a power play goal at 4:37 of the period, and Bismarck held a 1-0 lead after 2 periods. The resilient RoadRunners, thougb, tied the game when Blake Humphrey fed a pass to Corey Jendras who unloaded a heavy shot that rebounded right back to Humphrey as he was going hard to the net. Humphrey was able to muscle the puck across to tie the game at 1-1. Jendras put the 'Runners up 2-1 with a power play tally 6 minutes later as he blasted home a pass from behind the net from Josh Kamrass. The Bobcats, though, would tie the game with less than 4 minutes remaining as a high shot rang of the helmet of goalie Lyle Rocker and right to Ryan Geary of Bismarck who slid it in easily. The game ended tied at 2-2. which was remarkable considering the shots were 37-8 in favor of the 'Runners. A quick Bobcat penalty in the extra period set up the game winner, as Aaron Gens buried a bomb high on the glove side for the overtime game winner.
The RoadRunners face a big test Friday night when they skate against the Team USA U-18's at 6:30 pm. Team USA lost a shootout on Thursday to Fairbanks. The game will be available on local radio in Topeka on AM 1490 KTOP, and streaming video available with B2 Networks.
