Recent RoadRunner Russell commits to Michigan Tech

TOPEKA, Kan. – Former RoadRunner forward Marcus Russell, recently promoted to the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks, announced this weekend that he has verbally committed to play Div. I hockey next season for Michigan Tech of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Russell, the RoadRunners’ leading scorer until his departure last week, had 25 points in 28 games for Topeka.
“We are excited for Marcus,” said Topeka Head Coach Josh Kamrass. “He has worked hard towards this during his time in Topeka. Michigan Tech has been following his progress for some time now, and they are getting an outstanding student-athlete.”
Kamrass noted that Russell’s recent promotion to the USHL, along with a number of other RoadRunner teammates from this year’s club, is something that the Topeka organization is very proud of.
“It’s our job to move these players up and on,” said Kamrass. “These things don’t happen overnight, and we are especially happy that Marcus finalized his decision.”
Russell contributed to the success of last year’s RoadRunners club, scoring 18 goals in helping Topeka to the playoffs and a first-round knockout of highly regarded Lone Star. Russell, from Traverse City, Mich., is a product of the Honeybaked U16 and U18 programs.
