The Topeka RoadRunners are pleased to announce their continued commitment to Topeka and the surrounding communities by making a new addition to their educational programs.
The continued partnership with Cox Communication’s Reading with the RoadRunners will be joined with their new program, BlueCross BlueShield’s ‘Runners Get Fit. The reading and fitness programs will each be 1 hour, filled with fun education activities with the Topeka RoadRunners players. Teachers can sign up their classrooms individually or it can be a school-wide event.
The students participating will receive a RoadRunners bookmark and/or a Runners Get Fit bracelet with a list of goals. At the end of reaching all goals, the student will be rewarded.
The Topeka RoadRunners and their partners are challenging Topeka and the surrounding communities to get involved with these two programs. They are setting their goal at 3,000 participants. The RoadRunners would like to reach this goal by April 2011, and will be updating the community weekly on WIBW-TV. The ‘Runners are working on various ways to keep children involved throughout the entire school year and will be throwing an end of the year event for all children involved.
The RoadRunners feel that this is a great way to help benefit the youth in the community. “After the RoadRunners’ successful 2009-2010 season, we realized what an impact we can make in the community. As an organization, we want to heavily promote striving to read at all ages and the importance of getting active.” says Tiffany Logue, Account Executive, “I can’t think of a better way to get children motivated to do these this then by putting our players in their school and getting them excited.”
The RoadRunners are looking for 5 schools to be the first participants in their programs. If you would like more information about how to get your school involved, please visit the RoadRunners website at www.topekaroadrunners.com or call the office at (785)286-7825.
