‘RUNNERS GROUND JETS, 3-1

The Topeka RoadRunners finished the 2010 NAHL Showcase with a perfect 4-0-0 record, the final win a 3-1 battle with the previously undefeated Janesville Jets.

The first two periods were penalty filled, and the only goal of the period was a 5-on-3 power play goal, a gorgeous tic-tac-toe play started by Jordan Davis who fired a crisp pass to Justin Hussar, who then in turn sharply snapped it across the crease to Michael Hill who buried it for his second goal of the year and a 1-0 lead that stood after 1.

Janesville tied it up at 1-1 in the second period, a Ross Mauermann shot that eluded Rasmus Tirronen, the first goal he'd allowed in 86:26 of play. Despite the barrage of penalties, this goal was scored at even strength. Topeka added an even strength goal at 10:33 when Billy Coole, playing in his game back from injury took the puck from the right wing corner and walked in front slipping the puck around Jets goalie David Jacobson for a 2-1 lead.

The third period saw only two penalties, surprising after seeing 18 called in the first two periods. Topeka killed off a penalty late in the third, but when Janesville pulled the goalie, aggressive forechecking by Michael Hill resulted in a wayward puck creeping into the abandoned net for a 3-1 margin, preserving the 'Runners victory. Rasmus Tirronen stopped 20 shots en route to his second victory of the year.

Topeka (4-0-0) travels to St. Louis (5-1-0) to face the Bandits next weekend.
