The Topeka RoadRunners are looking to finish the season strong.
Following a 3-2 overtime victory over the Shreveport Mudbugs Friday, Topeka had another solid effort Saturday, defeating the Mudbugs 4-2 at Landon Arena in front of 1,430 rowdy fans.
Forward John Wojciechowski had the game-winner at 5:30 of the third period, scoring an unassisted goal to make it 3-2.
Defenseman Jake Rosenbaum added some insurance to this lead at 13:34 of the third, beating goaltender John Roberts.
Roberts was pulled late, but Topeka held on to its lead, insuring a winning series, with the third and final game Sunday at Landon Arena.
Forward Will Schlagenhauf got the Runners off and running at 4:35 of the first period scoring his ninth goal of the year, with forward Joey Moore picking up his fourth assist of the season on the play.
Defenseman Dominick Procopio pulled Shreveport even at 17:28 of the first, scoring his first goal of the year.
Early in the second stanza, at 3:59, forward Alex Frye tallied his 19th goal of the year, giving Topeka a 2-1 lead. Goaltender Ryan Snowden picked up an assist, his first as a RoadRunner, on the play.
Shreveport forward Erik Zohovs evened it up at two at 6:12, which stood through the end of the period.
Snowden was strong in net for Topeka on the evening, stopping 33 of 35 shots on goal to earn the number one star.
