Runners Over Jackalopes 4-2

Not having scored since October, the RoadRunners were pressing but well rested coming into this one game set against Odessa. A slow start sped up in the second period, vaulting the Runners over the Jackalopes 4-2 at Odessa tonight.

Alex Alger (assisted by Chris Taff at 15:24) kicked things off with a netter past PJ Bridges to give Odessa a 1-0 lead that would hold through the end of the first period. The opening frame marked the seventh straight scoreless period for Topeka who had last dented the scoreboard in the third period of a 4-1 loss to Springfield on Oct. 26.

The draught ended in a flood with the second period. Peter Halash tied the game (assisted by Andrew Roye and Tyler Poulsen) at 3:39. Jake Kamrass thrust the team to the lead with a goal (assisted by Jerad Tafoya and Roye) at 10:25. Odessa bit back with a power play goal from Lukas Laub (assisted by Connor Chambers at 16:21), tying the game 2-2. Poulsen responded with a power play goal (assisted by Halash and Ryan Polin) of his own at 18:37, ending the second with the Runners up 3-2.

The third was notable for only a few things; Clint Garris' power play goal (assisted by Sly Sutter and Mike Gornall at 8:07), the 24 combined penalty minutes, and a bench minor on Head Coach Scott Langer. Regardless, Bridges held up his end of the night by walling off the goal (defending successfully on a penalty shot, for instance) enroute to a 29 out of 31 performance. The result being the Runners victory 4-2 over Odessa.

The Runners hop on the bus for a quick jaunt to play the Lone Star Brahmas for a two-game set starting Friday night. Fans in Topeka are invited to watch the games at Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant but are reminded to get there early as seats are limited. the Runners return to Topeka next Thursday night to start a three-game series against these same Odessa Jackalopes. The weekend will feature the team in special Shriners jerseys that will be auctioned off after Saturday's contest with a portion of the proceeds going to the Topeka Arab Shrine.
