Coming off a 1-2-1 road trip that saw the team drop from first to third in the South, the Runners had something to prove against the Amarillo Bulls Friday night. Four goals and sixty minutes later, Topeka came out on top in dominating fashion, downing the Bulls 4-2.
After their first real scoring opportunity was waved off by the officials, Topeka charged to the lead on a Sam Rennaker netter (assisted by JB Baker and Sly Sutter) at 7:05 of the first, Rennaker and Baker would then assist Sutter on a goal at 10:14 and the Runners were off to the races with a 2-0 lead.
Daniel Rzavsky pressed things further with a score at 12:16 of the second period (assisted by Tyler Hayes) and then fed Yu Hikosaka who made a nifty move to fake the breezers off of goaltender Jacob Weatherly to make it 4-0 at 15:38. The Bulls finally broke free with a goal late in the second and another in the third but it would not be enough to overcome a strong defensive and offensive effort by the Runners. The Bulls were held to only 14 shots on the night and just two shots in the final period.
