RUNNERS STALL STREAKING BRAHMAS

The Topeka RoadRunners "Black Friday" opponent, the Lone Star Brahmas had fired off 10 consecutive wins entering the weekend series, but the 'Runners crafted a 4-2 win, notching their 8th win in 9 games at home.

The Brahmas struck first, with a delayed penalty pending and an extra attacker on the ice just 1:40 into the game, Alexey Solovyev slid a low shot through a screen to put Lone Star ahead. Topeka tied it up at 4:09 when Cam Strong picked the top corner on the blocker side of Brahma netminder Jake Kupsky, set up by Willie Brown. The game was still tied as the first period horn sounded with Topeka mounting pressure and outshooting Lone Star 11-6.

Midway through the 2nd period, Strong scored his 2nd of the night and 8th of the year cleaning up the rebound of a Daniel Rzavsky shot at 10:05 on the power play. Ryan Polin grew Topeka's lead to 3-1 when he ripped home a shot from the right circle, set up by Carlos Fornaris and Sam Rennaker with 1:07 to go in the frame.

Topeka's penalty killers were put to work in the third, and after two successful kills, the Brahmas Sebastian Vidmar scored a goal of a deflection that was initially ruled "no goal" but then changed after some discussion. The Brahmas pulled their goalie for the extra skater with 2:30 left to play but Tyler Irvine floated a shot into the empty net at 1:45 for the 4-2 lead. Lone Star pulled their goalie again, but the 'Runners held firm, securing the win.
