Assistant Coach Mark McFarlane
The Topeka RoadRunners are extremely excited to welcome Mark McFarlane into the position of Assistant Coach.
“It’s definitely a positive for our club,” said Scott Langer, RoadRunners head coach. Mark brings a lot of energy and his background speaks for itself, he’s played many years of professional hockey.”
McFarlane began his professional career in 1988 when he debuted for the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League. McFarlane had an excellent rookie season scoring 51 points in 58 games. McFarlane played two more seasons with the Broncos before attending Acadia University located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. McFarlane played in only 20 games during the 1993-94 season registering 31 points for the school.
McFarlane played for four different teams during the 1995-96 season. First was the Winston-Salem Mammoths of the SHL. McFarlane then made the jump to the East Coast Hockey league were he played first for the Dayton Bombers, and then the Raleigh Icecaps, and finally the Hampton Road Admirals. The following season McFarlane switched leagues to the CoHL and later the UHL, playing for the Quad-City Mallards. During three seasons with the Mallards, McFarlane scored132 points.
In 1999 McFarlane began the season for the Macon Whoopee of the CHL, playing in only 10 games before he rejoined the Mallards for the remainder of the season. During that same year, he played four games with the Minnesota Blue Ox, a Roller Hockey team. He played for Quad-City until 2002. McFarlane was then out of hockey for two years until signing with the Topeka Tarantulas in 2004. He played in only five games for the Tarantulas before retiring.
