The RoadRunners Return: The Vets (part 1)
It’s a new season, a new team, and a new day for your Topeka RoadRunners. And while every year sees fan favorites depart for bigger and better opportunities, a strong core of veteran leadership and experience returns. So as the 2013-2014 edition of the Runners begin packing their bags for Kansas, let’s take a look at the familiar faces that promise to make this season another memorable campaign.
#15 Clint Garris – Defenseman
Limited to 20 games last season due to injury, Clint Garris made an impact whenever he touched the ice. Expect this 5’11” 180 lb defenseman out of Acworth, GA to be a force around the net this season. Clint brings a physical, hard-nosed approach to this year’s lineup.
#9 Mike Gornall – Forward
As the RoadRunners struggled with some key injuries and suspensions last season, Forward Mike Gornall heeded the call. The 6’ 200 lb. Irwin, PA native added a goal on three shots in two 2-game stints with the team and promises to make a big impact on the roster going forward. Gornall is a junior ready player and will bring size and great ability in his first full season as a RoadRunner.
#24 Tyler Groat – Forward
A fan favorite due to his slick skating, Groat was a productive member of the RoadRunner offense last year. 17 pts (9 goals/8 assists) and a plus/minus of +10 are only the beginning for Tyler who looks to terrorize the offensive zone in 2013-2014. Tyler’s ability to score goals and create scoring chances will be looked upon heavily.
#21 Peter Halash – Forward
Known as a strong shooter, Peter Halash contributed 14 pts in 36 games last season. With a full season under his belt, Halash could have a breakout year and has the ability to be a game changer. His overall skill, hockey sense and ability sets him apart. Halash could carry this team early.
Keep an eye out for the next installment of The Vets. Up next: Jake Kamrass, Tomas Nechala, and Patrick Pollock.
