The RoadRunners managed to earn three out of four possible points against the Wichita Falls Wildcats this past weekend. And while the first game ended in somewhat disappointing fashion, the team certainly saved the best for last.
On Friday night, the RoadRunners looked to be in control for most of the contest. With leads of 2-0 and 3-1, the night looked to be going Topeka’s way. Slowly but surely, the Wildcats chipped away at the RoadRunner defense, scoring goals in each period to tie the game. In overtime, a Mick Bruce hooking penalty led to a Wichita Falls powerplay goal and defeat. The RoadRunners salvaged a point at least, sending them to the top spot in the South.
Saturday night’s game was as exhilarating as it was head scratching. The Wildcats rode to a 3-0 on two shorthanded goals and another off a turnover in the defensive zone. It wasn’t until the third period that the RoadRunners offense took off. Or should I say exploded. Down by three, the RoadRunners scored five unanswered goals to win the game. With the victory, the RoadRunners ensured a division lead heading into this weekend’s matchup at Springfield.
RoadRunners Partner with the United Way for Fan Ornament Auctions
This Wednesday, the RoadRunners will gather together and create two sets of Christmas ornaments to be sold at silent auction during the next home series (Dec. 14th and 15th against Amarillo). There will be a silent auction for each game for the ornaments with all of the proceeds going to the United Way of Topeka.
Also on Wednesday, some of your favorite players will be assisting the United Way during their telethon on WIBW Ch. 13. The players will be manning the phone banks from 4pm-7pm, accepting donations to benefit the United Way’s Adopt a Family for Christmas initiative. The proceeds from the telethon will be used to help save Christmas for local area families who are in need. For volunteer and donation information, go to WIBW. Com and click on the Live United Christmas Bureau banner.
